On January 25, Sk. Chand (35), son of Sk. Saiful, a resident of Bhangipara, Maheshtala, was arrested by Kolkata Police in the Hastings area for possessing an illegal firearm. The arrest occurred at the intersection of St. George’s Gate Road and Bakery Road, under the jurisdiction of Hastings Police Station.
Police recovered a single-shot firearm and one cartridge from Chand’s possession during the operation. The arrest led to the registration of a case under the Arms Act, with Hastings Police Station recording the incident as Hastings P.S. Case No. 15, dated January 25.
Authorities have initiated further investigations into the case, focusing on the circumstances surrounding Chand’s possession of the illegal weapon. The arrest is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal firearms in Kolkata. The police continue to gather information regarding any potential connections to larger illegal arms networks.
